What is MBSR and how can this help me?

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)  is an evidenced-based 8 week educational program designed to provide you with empowering skills to help cope more effectively with daily life stress, worry, and physical pain.  Originating  at University of Massachusetts Medical School and designed  by Dr. Jon Kabat Zinn in 1979, MBSR participants have shown consistent and reliable evidence of:

  • Improved coping skills in dealing with the daily demands of stress

  • Living with greater ease and calm

  • Recovering more quickly from challenging situations

  • Improved focus and attention

  • Improved day to day sense of well being

  • Reduced pain levels and more effective coping with pain that may be persistent

  • Reduced impact of many health conditions such as hypertension, insomnia, headaches, and anxiety

Utilizing the powerful practices of mindfulness, an innate way of paying attention to what is happening in your life, inward and outward, you will have access to deeper insights, a greater sense of connection to yourself and others, and a greater ability to take wise action in your life.  Learning to integrate these practices into your life can provide a path to an improved sense of health and well-being.  At home practice will be required through the duration of the course and it is beneficial to attend all sessions.

The course is open to participants 18 and older and consists of eight weekly 2- ½ hour sessions and one day long retreat on a Saturday.  There is also a free, mandatory information session with an introduction to mindfulness practice and a detailed overview of the course.  These sessions are for those curious about the course as well as those certain they want to participate.  It is a time for participant and teacher to evaluate if this is the right fit for you.

Class dates and times will be announced soon for the upcoming Spring class.  For more information on this topic please leave your email address in the form below.
